Slot machines in the UK have started to warn gamblers about the dangers of gambling

British bookmakers have updated the software of slot machines located in land-based betting points. Now multi-functional terminals from time to time appear warnings about the negative consequences of participating in gambling. The new rules are implemented under the influence of the betting and Gaming Council (BGC).

The algorithm is based on evaluating the user’s behavioral responses. If a user loses several bets in a row, opens several gambling games one after the other, or spends too much time at the slot machine, the game process is blocked for 30 seconds. During this period, the screen displays an offer to set limits on bids or a time limit.

In parallel, the program notifies the employees of the hall about the temporary blocking of the gaming machine. It is assumed that upon receiving such a message, the employee must inform the client of the restrictions available to them.

The new system is already installed on slot machines located in 1,600 BetFred betting shops and 3,200 offices of Ladbrokes Coral bookmaker across the UK. Another British operator, William Hill, also started using the software. Previously, all operators were forced to reduce the maximum bid in such machines from 100 to 2 pounds.

Nottingham Trent University expert mark Griffiths said this was a step in the right direction, but suggested that a 30-second break might not be enough to deal with addicted users.

Griffiths and his colleagues conducted a study in Norway, where slot machines are blocked for 90 seconds in a similar way. It turned out that even in this case, the number of bets in gambling is reduced slightly. https://slots-online-canada.com/slots/mining-fever/

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) is the only gambling industry Association in the UK that represents the interests of bookmakers, land-based and online casinos. Members representing up to 90% of the UK gambling industry adhere to a Code of conduct designed to conduct responsible gambling.
